Police Department
The Gowanda Police Department celebrated its 100 th year in existence in November of 2006. The Department has seen many changes over the years. Their presence in our community is what helps keep Gowanda a safe and wonderful place to live and raise a family.
The Police Department is a 24/7 operation that is supervised by Chief Joe Alessi. It is made up of 20 part-time officers, which includes a bike patrol, foot patrol, K-9 officer, Dave Hock and Mike the K-9 dog, and a four man Critical Emergency Response Team (CERT). Officer Jen Alessi is our DARE coordinator and our School Resource Officer for the Gowanda Central School.
The Village is divided into two counties at the Cattaraugus Creek. The Cattaraugus County portion of the village is located in the Town of Persia and the Erie County portion is located in the Town of Collins.
